Benefits of Golden Berries – The New Mega SuperfoodRaw Republic Vegan
Raw Republic’s classic Chickpea “Tuna” Salad just evolved, and now it is GOLDEN.
Instead of adding traditional dried cranberries, this recipe called for an extra something special, so we added mega health optimizing dried golden berries. Also known as “Pichuberries,” they look like small yellow tomatoes, and are native to the Andes of South America where they grow in great abundance. Their taste is mostly sweet with a slight tang, which is due to high content of Vitamin C. In addition to Vitamin C, they have many other benefits:
- Golden berries are low in calories and only have about 53 calories per 100 grams.
- Golden berries contain many vitamins & minerals: Vitamins such as A, C, E, K1, B1, B2, B3, fatty acids and phytosterols. Minerals such as calcium, iron, and magnesium.
- Golden berries are high in antioxidants including polyphenols and carotenoids, which makes them super effective as an anti-inflammatory food.
- Golden berries are filled with with anolides – this is a group of flavonoids that help to support the endocrine system and assist the body’s healthy response in many ways, like stress reduction and sexual function.
Raw Republic recommends adding golden berries to your morning smoothie or creating a sugar-free preserve. In a dried fruit form you can add it on top of granola with nut mylk, your favorite smoothie bowl, or a creamy coconut yogurt.
