It is safe to assume that all of us at Raw Republic are in love with smoothie bowls! As one of our most popular offerings, we dish out some of the most colorful, nutritionally-dense bowls in the country.

Have you heard the buzz surrounding concern about consuming smoothie bowls and having too much sugar in your diet as a result? Well, we are here to quell your worries and show you how you can still enjoy a smoothie bowl without going overboard.

Health starts from the inside

If your main concern is keeping your calorie count or sugar low, simply choose a base that contains minimal additives. This would look like starting with a base of açai (pronounced ah-sa-ee), adding coconut water, and one fruit to blend!

Adding greens like kale inside is always a plus and will only add more vitamins and minerals to the base.

Top it with love

Toppings can range from protein-packed nuts, seeds, or fruit. Granola is always an option but again, think about what your health goals are and consider what would be reasonable for your daily intake.

Something sweet

Keeping your bowl on the lighter side would mean choosing to opt-out on honey, or agave. Pass on the added sugars so you can enjoy your bowl without any worries!

A bowl a day can keep the ____ away

Smoothie bowls can either make for an excellent meal or even a better choice instead of ice cream for dessert. The intention you put into selecting your açai or pitaya bowl will vary, so choose wisely!

You can keep the doctor or the fat away based on your combinations, but just like anything in life, too much can take it overboard! Think about how often you are consistently coming back to certain recipes, consider that there may some ways you can cater to your body’s long-term health benefits with these bowls rather than appealing to a quick sugar fix.

Thankfully at Raw, we formulated our proprietary recipes with your health and taste buds in mind. We only use the best of the best ingredients which means NO artificial sugars or preservatives.

Plus, being that each bowl is made-to-order, you can always ask to adjust part of the blend or any of the toppings.

More superfoods, please

We love using açai or pitaya as the base to our smoothie bowls for their wide array of benefits!

Açai is a Brazilian berry that is known as one of the most “antioxidant-packed fruits on earth.” As quoted by Sambazon founder Ryan Black, “Açai is a fantastic source of whole food vegan nutrition with a plant-based omega fat, fiber and antioxidants, three things that help your body run clean and healthy. It can be a light meal that fills you up but won’t weigh you down. Low in sugar and good for the blood and brain health.”

As for the vibrant pink dragon fruit known as Pitaya, states “Dragon fruits have a surprising number of phytonutrients. Rich in antioxidants, they contain vitamin C (equivalent to 10 percent of the daily value), polyunsaturated (good) fatty acids, and several B vitamins for carbohydrate metabolism, as well as carotene and protein.

Dragon fruits have zero complex carbohydrates, so foods can be more easily broken down in the body, helped by vitamin B1 (thiamin) and other B vitamins.

The seeds of dragon fruits are high in polyunsaturated fats (omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids) that reduce triglycerides and lower the risk of cardiovascular disorders. Eating dragon fruit can help the body maintain such normal function as ridding the body of toxic heavy metals and improved eyesight. Lycopene, responsible for the red color in dragon fruit, has been shown to be linked with a lower prostate cancer risk.”
